Cuisine

No visit to Elbow River Camp is complete without trying traditional Indigenous foods, like freshly made bannock, a staple frybread with a golden, crispy exterior and warm, fluffy inside. Some vendors offer bannock with sweet toppings like jam and honey or savory versions with smoked meats, bringing a taste of Indigenous culinary traditions to the Stampede. These flavorful and hearty dishes provide a delicious connection to Indigenous heritage and the deep relationship between food, community, and the land.
Storytelling & Oral Traditions

Indigenous cultures have passed down wisdom and history through oral storytelling for thousands of years, and Elbow River Camp gives you the chance to hear these captivating tales firsthand. Sit by the fire as Elders and Knowledge Keepers share myths, legends, and true stories about their ancestors, the land, and the spirits that guide them. These stories offer a rare and intimate glimpse into the deep cultural roots of the Blackfoot, Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nakoda Nations.

Explore a marketplace filled with handcrafted beadwork, jewelry, leather goods, and intricate quillwork, all made by Indigenous artists. Each piece is deeply meaningful, often incorporating traditional designs and symbols that tell a story or represent a connection to nature. Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind souvenir or simply admiring the skill and artistry, these crafts offer a beautiful way to support Indigenous creators.
